Western North Carolina is cursed with litter, but blessed with people working to keep it clean. The Litter Warriors page is the place to get involved in litter cleanups, point out places that need cleaning up and thank those who do so.
As a group of neighbors in Asheville's South French Broad get together to improve the area, we offer this site for those involved to post information in a variety of ways -- forum posts, photos, video, blog entries, etc.
Welcome aboard, SFBers!
Low Noise WNC is looking for a board of health care, legal and nonprofit professionals to take action on noise pollution in Asheville and then the larger WNC community. No money is requested, just a little time here and there for a short term project until municipalities, the state and Federal government are linked together on a national noise mitigation program. There is a surprisingly successful national movement already active on noise control with lots of success stories the City of Asheville can look to. See NoiseOff.org for progress to date.

This is crazy. There is so much going on in the country and you pick motorcycle noise. What happened to FREE Country.
Don't forget to stop all lawn mowers mowing. They make more noise than the loudest of bikes.
Maybe you need to relocate to a country that does control all the things you grip about. Get a life..
I read your opinion today in the Asheville Citzen entitled "Noise-polluting motorcycle community needs a tune-up"
I have been a part of the local motorcycle community for over 32 years, so I feel as if I am qualified to debate this issue with you. I am a professional business man and I know many other professionals that ride also. And ... Yes my pipes are LOUD. I am sure you have never felt the freedom of riding a motorcycle. Along with that freedom comes a certain amount of danger. One danger we encounter almost every trip is having a car pull out of a side road or a driveway right in front of us. Many motorcyclist have died this way. Having riden more than 300,000 miles over the past 32 years I can tell you that loud pipes do indeed save lives. When a car driver pulls up to an intersection and they hear the motorcycle long before they see it, they almost always look the rider dead in the eyes. That is the sign we as motorcycle riders are looking for to ensure us that car is not going to pull out in front of us. So, if you think that is a "Flawed argument" so be it. I have been run off the road by quiet cars and believe me, it stills hurts. I have never been hurt by a loud vehicle of any kind passing me. The part of your commentary that was the most disturbing was your reference to the "bad seed" bikers. If you want to see several hundred of these "bad seeds" drive your electric car out to the VA Hospital this Saturday August 15, 2009 around noon and you will see a large number of the local motorcycle community, that needs a tune-up, gathered there having lunch with war veterans. We are raising money for the VA Hospital Nursing Home. Most of the money will come right out of our pockets.
Later this year, you are welcome to attend our "Ride for Kids" and "Toys for Tots" rides here in Asheville. Last year the Ride for Kids had 560 "bad seeds" that raised $83,177.00. The Toys for Tots ride included even more "bad seeds" with over 1500 riders, all of whom brought at least one $10.00 toy for local kids that would otherwise not have a Christmas. I could go on and on, but it is very unlikely that you will even stop for a moment and look at the other side of the debate. I will just leave you with this thought .. you are certainly entitled to your opinion, as so many have died for your right in very LOUD WARS.
