Hey fruit lovers,
Letting you know that this Saturday, May 24th at 9:00 a.m. we will convene at the Edible Park in downtown Asheville to celebrate its 10th year. The park has provided party favors all summer long starting with service berries, nanking cherries and mulberries in June and will finish with a big bang in November with Persimmons and Medlars.
The Edible Park has selflessly been giving a party every summer for 10 years and only asks that we show up. Whether you believe in urban agriculture, local food security, beauty, wildlife, sanctuary, community interface with nature, outside school classrooms ... then please say so by coming down and joining with your fellow revelers.
The way it works is, if you like this idea of food growing in public places cast your a vote by helping out. None of us get paid money, but what we receive in return is rich on all levels. The more people that come out to maintain what we already have, the more we can put our energy into new projects around town, such as the aforementioned schools and parks.
Please feel free to bring:
food and drinks- (enough for yourself and a little to share)
gloves
sharp weed cutting implements
weed eaters
5 gallon buckets
your favorite weeding tool
a free standing ladder.
mulch and compost
wheelbarrow
cardboard
We will be pruning, thinning the over-abundant fruit, weeding, watering, and cutting back the weeds and brush. I look forward to celebrating what a unique and wonderful place this is in our community with you.
